April 2023 – “Whilst it’s back to school here in the U.K. after the Easter break 🇬🇧 Sal’s school Shoes are also heading back to the classroom Land of Hope children’s centre in Nigeria 🇳🇬 which saves innocent children, accused of witchcraft, from exclusion, torture and death. Superstition is deeply ingrained in African culture. The belief in witchcraft and black magic is a complex mixture of social, economic and religious factors. The fear of evil and the supernatural can be so strong that it displaces love for a child. The family bond is very strong in African society, and even though superstition can seemingly break that bond, it is usually due to poverty and ignorance. Land of Hope believe that education is the most effective weapon in the battle against superstition. With care, protection and education for the children in their care, and by educating their surrounding communities, Land of Hope lay the foundation for a future, where children grow up to be independent, active and social individuals who contribute to the development of their community.”
